Job Description:
Job Title – Lead – Operating Systems Programmer
Opportunity for a Mainframe z/OS Technical lead to support break fix, maintenance, service improvement and Business and infrastructure project delivery.
The Purpose of This Role
The Mainframe z/OS group provides a variety of services related to (z/OS) systems at Fidelity. Those services might include but are not necessarily limited to:
Basic technology and infrastructures:
Computing systems, applications, and languages,
Data structures, databases, files, and I/O,
Business knowledge:

1 High level language (other than REXX), examples are SAS/Easytrieve/Java/ISPF Dialogs/Cobol/Assembler.
Basic REXX knowledge (modifying existing programs) .
ISPF/TSO structures (ALTLIB, LIBDEF, MENU, REXX usage for product invocation).
Coding new IVPs, which may include the use of an IVP REXX checking routine.
Understanding of AUTOIVP/FIDDASH/FIDCLONE/AUTOSTAGE functionality.
Use of jChange for change processing.
Understand the IPL Process/Flow from the LOAD Address/LOADPARM through IVP5.
Overview of the z/OS Storage Map, including 24/31/64, the “16MB line” and “the Bar”.
Participate in the MOC rotation.
Full problem resolution – Open issue, diagnose, fix (for less critical problems).
DR understanding.
Resolve health Checker issues.
Basic SLIP processing (set slip for abend, display slip, enable, disable and delete commands).
Install less complex OEM products.
Become SME for 2 products (IBM or Non-IBM).
Become secondary SME for 5 additional products (means some knowledge)
Basic SMP/E knowledge.
Increased diagnostic skills, understanding abend and wait state code, appreciation of the PSW.
Understand PARMLIB naming convention standards.
Understand and update common PARMLIB members.
IBM and other vendor Utilities to senior levels.
Intermediate OSS Standards – SYSPLEX & LPAR naming conventions, DASD naming conventions, IBM/OEM SYSRES knowledge, Clone Rollout process, RES vs Non-RES considerations, dataset naming standards (TECH, MAINT, SYSx).
Able to initiate maintenance and follow an APAR or PTF through the entire life cycle.
Intermediate Diagnosis with available messaging.
Open problems with IBM (IBMLINK) and CA (Support Connect) and send diagnostic data (other vendors not reqd but nice to have).
Assist with the product installation of an OEM product, and perform, as the SME, product upgrade to new release or version preserving permanent records and documentation to standard.
Update OSS Sharepoint site in particular use of the OSS Turnover for search and creation of items.
Learn a few useful operator commands (20).
Understand and use Service Manager & PPM.
Intermediate REXX knowledge (understanding more complex existing programs, write new programs).
Advanced level of diagnosis for wait state conditions and how to resolve them.
Advanced level of diagnosis for system ABEND codes and their relationship to SVCs.
Implement upgrades to existing products, with an understanding of what the product does and implications of new features/enhancements that could affect the current release.
Implementation of complex products and subsystem changes with little or no oversight.
Participate in the OEM Coordinator role.
Basic understanding of Logstreams (DASD/CF), including commands to display information.
Familiarity with IPCS, for DAE and SADUMP.
Overview of paging, how it works, RSM/VSM/ASM, Page Datasets (Common/PLPA/LOCAL).
Trace setting and gathering for GTF and Component Trace.
Advanced Slip settings (IF/SA/SB).
Diagnostic commands for XCF, GRS conflicts.
Increased understanding of PARMLIB members and their relationship, including Dynamic commands.
Advanced DUMP knowledge (issuing commands with and without automation).
Become SME for 5 products (IBM or Non-IBM).
Become secondary SME for 10 additional products (means some knowledge).
Intermediate SMP/E knowledge, diagnostics and debugging of issues.
Understand the IBM Hiper Process.
Install ServerPac for new Operating System (supervised).
Understand Shopz and SMP/E Internet Retrieval.
Basic USS and zFS knowledge including use of BPXMTEXT for message/codes lookup.
Understand HOOKJOB.
Understand, investigate and fix IVP errors.
Increase knowledge of the IPL process.
Knowledge of TCPIP
Knowledge in VTAM
Knowledge in Connect FTP,SFTP,Connect Direct

Incident and Problem resolution in all LBG Mainframe z/OS areas
Contribute to Service improvement plans for Mainframe z/OS environments
Deliver Mainframe z/OS sysprog for Business projects
Lead improvement initiatives in the Mainframe z/OS technical area
Contribute to key Infrastructure delivery projects
Ensure Incidents and Problems are resolved in line with SD Service Assurance targets
Ensure processes and procedures are strictly adhered to
Raise Change records to fix hardware and software issues with the backup service
Work collaboratively across the wider Storage team to help develop, promote and implement process initiatives

Project management capability would be an added advantage.
Provide 24x7 On-Call Support
Willingness to work off hours as per company standards
