Get to know Fidelity Ireland
Headquartered in Boston, U.S., and privately held for 79 years, Fidelity's mission is to strengthen the financial well-being of its customers and deliver better outcomes for the clients and businesses it serves.
With more than 77,000 employees across 11 countries in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, Fidelity Investments gives employees the chance to be part of a growing industry on the cutting edge of technology that helps our customers achieve their financial goals.
Fidelity Investments stays at the forefront of fintech by exploring new opportunities around digital assets, quantum computing and other emerging technologies that will strengthen and secure our customers' financial well-being and deliver better outcomes for the individuals, communities and businesses we serve. Fidelity Ireland's teams play a vital role within the global organisation by providing key technology, operations and support services.
What makes Fidelity Ireland different?
Unlike other global technology and fintech firms, Fidelity Investments remains privately owned and operated. "Fidelity Investments is family-owned, which is rare for an organisation of our scale. Our Chairman and CEO Abby Johnson is the granddaughter of the founder of the business, Edward C. Johnson II.", said Deirdre, director, regional leadership office.
"We are not a reactive organisation. Our leadership makes thoughtful, long-term decisions, and we prioritise solutions that deliver the very best outcomes for our customers", said Deirdre, "Being a privately owned company gives us the flexibility to do that, and our longevity as an industry leader is evidence that our future-focused investment strategy — not short-term gains — is a sustainable growth strategy".
Since its founding in 1946, Fidelity has served its customers and helped them achieve their financial goals. "We are a steady ship in a sea of change", said Deirdre. "And that's a strong testament to the way Fidelity runs the business".

Supporting Fidelity Investments' technology, operations and finance from Dublin and Galway
Fidelity Ireland's teams support the design, build and operations for a vast portfolio of investment solutions. "As a European centre of excellence, we deliver high-profile work to our U.S. partners", said Deirdre. "We have high-demand roles available. Candidates can work on projects that pique their interests and shine a light on their skill sets while we're giving them the opportunity to continue growing their career."
Ireland is home to many multinational European headquarters because, as Deirdre explained, "We work hard and communicate very effectively in Ireland. We understand business strategies and requirements and have the talent pool to support large, transnational organisations".
Dublin is home to Fidelity Ireland's first offshore location supporting Fidelity Investments, opened in 1996. The site's sister location in Galway opened in 2002. "Our business units leverage a "follow the sun" model to ensure enterprise operations support is available to U.S.-based customers around the clock", said Deirdre.
Even though Fidelity Ireland is 4,729 kilometres away from Fidelity Investments' Boston, Massachusetts, headquarters, its operating model is similar to other locations across the globe. "We align to the same resources; the overall employee experience is the same", said Deirdre.
Fidelity Ireland's Dublin and Galway locations have expanded in scale and relevance over the years. "We have over 2,000 employees, many of whom work in the technology space", said Deirdre. "We have access to a huge talent pool in the European Union, which allows us to capture and attract individuals with in-demand, critical skills".

Attracting and retaining technology, operations and finance experts
Fidelity Ireland's culture and benefits set it apart from other finance and technology companies in Dublin and Galway, thanks to our employee-centric approach. "We genuinely care about our employees and put them front and centre in decision-making", said Mairead, vice president of Fidelity fund and investment operations. "I have people on my team who've worked for other employers, and they say Fidelity Ireland has been the best company they've worked for".
That care comes from the top down. "I regularly feel humbled by and lucky to experience our regional leaders' commitment to employees across the region", said Deirdre. "They create a good place to work by listening to employees, communicating with transparency, and providing ongoing day-to-day support".
Supporting employees' career mobility and growth
"Our employees can expect an employment experience full of opportunity," said Mairead. "There's true job satisfaction available to those looking for it", Deirdre said.
Fidelity Ireland encourages technology, finance, and operations employees to explore career-mobility opportunities that give them exposure to other business units and/or roles to advance their careers, develop new skills and build a strong internal network employees can depend on for development support. "Our message is simple. You can grow your skills, achieve your goals, and have a rewarding career at Fidelity Ireland", said Deirdre.
"Managers want to see their team members thrive", said Katie. "They're held accountable for supporting their employees as they navigate their career journey in various ways', said Deirdre. "So we equip our managers with the resources and skills they need to serve as subject matter experts and offer sound guidance to their teams".
Coaching plays a significant role in supporting employees on their career journey. "You can find a coach within Fidelity to discuss your career aspirations, helping you assess your current skill proficiency and development opportunities while offering actionable next steps to achieve your goals", said Katie.
A learning-oriented culture that helps employees stay sharp
"We are deeply committed to learning and development. It's what we live and breathe", said Deirdre. "Our robust learning resources combine internal and external expertise to help employees expand and hone their technical and soft skills".
Tech employees have dedicated Learning Days every two weeks, which "encourages people to work on ideas outside their day job", said Mairead. "That might look like learning a new coding language or platform or workshopping ways to more effectively pitch ideas."

Driving innovative and secure solutions
"We foster innovation", said Mairead. "We have specific business units focused on cutting-edge technology and encourage employees in all roles to innovate and give voice to their ideas. That's underlined by the investment we provide in supporting those ideas. It's a key market differentiator for our company".
All technology, finance and operations employees are encouraged to be curious and experimental. "We support a bottom-up ideation process", said Mairead. "We ensure that people are rewarded for having an innovation mindset, whether their ideas result in tangible business outcomes or not". She continued, "Some employees have gone on to earn patents for the innovative work they've done at Fidelity Ireland".
Fidelity Ireland partners with many local universities to give students first-hand experience working in a corporate environment, while our fintech employees gain access to specialised academic research and expertise. This symbiotic relationship has proved to be effective, with one such partnership helping Fidelity Ireland become an early adopter of predictive models.
We keep pace with cutting-edge technologies while also keeping an eye on research, security and safety. "Our organisation balances pace and perfection in developing and launching new technologies to ensure our products and services meet our customers' standards and expectations and protect their investments", said Mairead. It's not an impulsive approach, but one of thoughtful consideration for the long-term implications of our decisions.

Embracing an inclusive culture
We pride ourselves on creating a team-oriented, collaborative environment where everyone's talents and experiences contribute to the firm's goals. "Our commitment to inclusion sets us apart", said Deirdre. As Katie said, "We want to make sure everybody has the opportunity to share their perspective and experience to best support our customers and business needs".
"Our employees represent 60+ different nationalities", said Mairead. "Having a broad, global employee population helps create dynamic, high-performing teams. People's backgrounds and experiences are different. When you bring all of that together with good leadership, you get great outcomes".
Historically, the technology and finance industries in Europe have had opportunities to create more dynamic leadership teams by developing female talent. For example, Lorna Martyn, Ireland site lead and senior vice president of technology management, has been a huge advocate for women in STEM inside and outside of Fidelity Ireland. "We have a lot of great female leaders in the organisation, especially in technology. We're leading by example", said Katie.
Creating a robust sense of community for employees in Dublin and Galway
Job satisfaction indicators are often employees, with the degree to which they feel connected to their coworkers and community. That's why we take a community-oriented approach to our workplace culture.
- Hybrid work schedules: The best of onsite and remote work
Fidelity Ireland's hybrid working model brings employees into the office one full week every four weeks to connect with colleagues and provide time for intentional focus on shared efforts. "You can really plan to host your workshop and brainstorming sessions during your in-office time to address needs that are best solved together", said Mairead. The other three weeks, you can choose to work remotely or in the office, which gives our employees the flexibility to choose the work setting that allows them to deliver their very best.
- Employee-led groups and events create camaraderie around shared interests
Employees in Dublin and Galway have access to 20 employee business resource groups that span various interests from women in technology to cybersecurity and more. "We invest year after year to allow these groups to continue to thrive", said Deirdre. "About 75% of employees participate in these groups, and they bring a spirit of energy and passion to the site, giving employees a sense of company pride and personal connection", Katie. "Your colleagues grow to become your friends through these groups and events", said Katie.
- Helping employees give back to the communities where they live and work
Fidelity understands the importance of being a good community steward, and our Fidelity Cares Programme helps our organisation develop strategic collaborations in the community with not-for-profit and educational institutions. This helps our employees give back through in-person and virtual volunteering activities. As Deirdre said, "You can walk around knowing you did something meaningful with your day and gave back to the community". Whether it's putting together care packages for those in need during the holidays or donating refurbished laptops to local schools, all levels of Fidelity Ireland employees take part. "Our leaders are present, painting, and gardening with us on those volunteering days", said Katie.

Offering best-in-class benefits
"You'll go a long way to find the benefits package we offer, along with the flexibility and career support we give our employees," said Mairead. The benefits Fidelity Ireland offers are designed to meet employees wherever they are in life, whether they're early, mid-, late career professionals or approaching retirement. "Our HR team keeps a pulse on the external market and our employee population to ensure we continue to hit the mark with benefits", said Deirdre.
Our benefits include 100% company-paid pension (unlike other firms that might only match up to a set percent) as well as bonuses and company shares to help employees achieve their financial goals now and in the future. "We are very much committed to helping employees plan for the future, and that includes an enterprise focus on building financial security through the various stages of life", said Deirdre. "We treat our employees like we treat customers, because they are our customers".
Fully paid private medical insurance offers employees added peace of mind. "Personally, as a mum of three active kids, private medical insurance is a gamechanger", said Deirdre. "It gives me a huge sense of assurance when we're dealing with yet another weekend sports injury".
A modern and comfortable workspace with a local flavour
Our Dublin location was recently renovated based on employee feedback. "Our real estate team took time to listen to the needs of employees through roundtables and created really modern spaces that are full of amenities and encourage collaboration", said Deirdre. Katie added, "Each location has its own nice and appreciated nuances, giving our offices a good vibe that doesn't feel like an office". She continued, "We have a very nice cafe and restaurant, little nooks you can use to decompress, focus or talk to colleagues. It's both comfortable and energetic."
Located in Citywest, the Dublin office gives employees access to a bustling metropolis alongside a four-kilometre lakeside walking trail. You could take a run around the lake during lunch or come back from a coffee break to be greeted by a swan outside the window.
The Galway office is perfect for those looking to head west or those who are already in Limerick, Cork or the Midlands. Onsite amenities include complimentary EV charging stations, snacks, and games for teambuilding.
