Job Description:
Director, Full Stack Engineering – Financial Crimes Technology
The Role
As the Financial Crimes Technology Chapter Leader, in an agile structure, you blend deep full stack development experience and knowledge of agile software engineering practices to deliver large-scale highly available, resilient, secure, scalable, cloud native digital enterprise applications combined with a passion for coaching, mentoring and developing associates. You are deeply committed to improving the value delivered to our customers, establishing or partnering to develop technical standards for your area and influencing the strategic decisions, solution development and work priorities. You will directly manage a team of chapter members who primarily work within autonomous squads across product areas but report directly to you. You are dedicated to helping them grow and develop in their technical knowledge area and ensure alignment on the “how” of the work they perform. You are committed to developing your own technical expertise and knowledge to bring the latest thinking to your role to empower others with that knowledge.
People Management

Allocate chapter member expertise across squads & manage chapter member growth and development, in partnership with Product Area & Squad Leaders

Identify current and future skill requirements for chapter members in partnership with Squad Leaders

Align chapter members in partnership with Product Area and Squad leaders across squads and product areas, to ensure the best utilization of talent while creating mobility and learning opportunities and informing learning day content to develop required skills

Set clear performance expectations by grade level and actively manage to those expectations

Manage, develop and empower associates within Chapter to aid in career growth and enable delivery of increased value in their teams

Create an environment that champions inclusivity, sustainable pace, psychological safety, transparency, and open and honest feedback
Strategic Thinking and Impact

Proactively partner with Chapter Area, Product Area, Center of Excellence, and Squad Leaders

Define and align chapter strategy with squad/product area objectives & roadmap

Help shape and evolve chapter area-wide best engineering practices and strategies, setting standards ensuring work performed is aligned with established roadmaps, create and execute the required technical and domain knowledge training

Influence strategic backlog and prioritization decisions for the supported squads

Measure performance through established objectives and KPIs to deliver agreed upon business, technology, and people results

Proactively remove impediments to delivering business value
Technical Leadership

Have a co-founder mindset by sharing the same passion and vision for the product as do product partners, having a relentless customer focus and a strong sense of ownership and accountability for the outcome

Provide the supported to your squads with technical leadership, guidance on TLM updates, solution recommendations to technical issues including support for production issues resolution

Drive the adoption of Observability ,end-to-end Reliability maturities, and Operational Readiness

Be a strong influencer in the chapter and product area for relentless adoption of engineering efficiencies (maybe combine with the previous bullet)

Own the technical outcome of all initiatives in your Chapter Area

Help your squads find gaps in the existing processes and frameworks to enable the delivery of highest quality secure resilient products

Be a single point of contact from your Chapter Area to respective Squad Leaders for all things tech and delivery accountability
Technical Expertise

Establish and instill engineering standards and expertise for the supported by you squads

Stay current on the evolving needs and requirements of customers

Maintain knowledge & expertise on internal & external market & industry trends & changes

Actively share insights, knowledge, industry practices and developments across the organization

Apply your deep expertise with DevOps CI/CD practices, TDD/BDD, automated security, quality, performance and chaos testing, modern test and mock frameworks and service virtualization tools to rapidly deliver, measure, and iterate features to customers while minimizing risk using practices like A/B tests, blue-green deployments, and feature toggles

Have deep hands-one experience with building AWS-native Java/SpringBoot REST APIs; working experience with PowerApps, Google RPC, Kafka and the CQRS pattern is a plus.

Instill the culture of customer obsession, operational readiness and rigorous production on-call discipline where any impact to the firm’s brand or customer experience is proactively triaged and addressed in a timely manner
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
-
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software engineering or related field
-
10+ years of expertise in designing and building large-scale highly available, resilient, secure, scalable, cloud-native (AWS, Azure) digital enterprise applications on micro-services, serverless and event-driven architectures using domain driven design and 12-factor app patterns

Experience leading complex technical solutions as an engineering thought leader with a broad impact and scope across geographically dispersed and/or global teams

Background in enterprise development experience to coach and partner on technology standards in Java, SpringBoot, Kafka, CI/CD processes and demonstratable experience in cloud migration strategies

Deep knowledge and experience of engineering principles, patterns and practices and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement

Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing people and teams

Experience identifying and acquiring talent needs

Resource planning and talent allocation across large organizations

The Team
You work in partnership with Squad Leaders and other Chapter Leaders aligned to Corporate Technology Group Risk and Legal Technology product area. By demonstrating and promoting Fidelity and agile leadership behaviors, you evolve and sustain our innovative, agile culture. You enable the build out of the digital cloud-native Fraud platform to protect the Fidelity customer, reduce fraud and drive technology simplicity across the product area. Your focus is on delivering end-to-end cloud-native digital solutions where quality, scalability, resiliency and security are highest priorities.
