The Role
The Electrical Shift Engineer provides support for the multiple critical business environments that the engineering department is responsible for. This position requires the ability to work within a highly trained 7 X 24 engineering team. Must support a team environment and work towards common goals and objectives for the department. This position will be filled by a seasoned Shift Engineer that has demonstrated complete knowledge of the site and the equipment contained within. Effective verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills are a must.
Note: Role is hands-on performing mechanical maintenance tasks and repairs. It is not an IT related position.
Key responsibilities include:
- Demonstrating the ability to coordinate and supervise all inspections, testing, calibration and repairs to electrical and mechanical systems employing in-house staff, vendors, engineers, and appropriate test equipment.
- Demonstrating the ability to direct, and administer the use of third party vendors to augment in-house resources, providing on-site supervision to assure cost, time and critical exposure commitments are met.
- Maintaining strict management of the infrastructure operations and control systems to eliminate risk by unauthorized employees, vendors, visitors.
- Overseeing or performing all preventive and remedial maintenance work on building or electrical systems to assure critical power, cooling, heating, and humidification requirements are met with no adverse business impact.
- Preparing daily log entries: accuracy, content, executable detail and associated closure of reported issues in a timely manner.
- Performing site inspection and perform rounds for completeness and accuracy.
- Utilizing tools, processes, procedures, and notifies/advises Lead engineers, Engineering Manager and Director as appropriate to ensure the consistent flow of information and activities.
- Demonstrating ability to switch to standby generators and bypass UPS systems when an electrical alarm or failure occurs, consistent with procedures, communicating all actions taken through the escalation process.
- Demonstrating ability to operate fire detection and suppression systems, locate and correct trouble faults and follow proper system protection procedures when work is performed in areas covered by fire systems.
- Demonstrating appropriate work habits, procedures, an in-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations to ensure the safety of self, fellow workers and building tenants.
- Supporting Fidelity’s ISO-14001 Environmental Management System, ISO-27001 Information Security Management and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Ability to read / understand blueprints and specifications.
- Demonstrates proficiency in correct handling and documentation of hazardous materials, refrigerants, electrical circuits, water treatment chemicals, solvents and cleaning supplies to protect personnel and property from undue risk.
- Demonstrates the ability to: Lift and carry 50 pound boxes and equipment, climb step and roof access ladders for equipment operations and maintenance, and work safely on equipment from a ladder 20 feet above ground with appropriate fall protection as may be required.
- Completes all required documentation associated with preventative maintenance, equipment operation, testing and inspections.
- Be available for overtime shift coverage as required.
- Other site specific duties as required to meet the intent of the summary scope.
Note: This is a second shift position that includes paid overtime, shift differential, and annual bonus.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
- Electrical Trade License plus (3) years minimum of trade experience
- Universal EPA certification is required.
- Data Center Engineering and supervision experience desirable
- AAS in a technical discipline desirable
- Direct interface with IT Hardware planning and change control environments preferred
- Ability to read construction prints, submittal information, and O&M manuals.
- Ability to navigate and use BMS, EPMS, and CMMS systems.
- Knowledge to use Microsoft programs Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook.
- Universal refrigerant or journeyman electrical license preferred.
- Ability to develop and maintain SOP’s, MOP’s, and EOP’s.
- A working knowledge of best trade practices for electrical, HVAC, or plumbing with a basic understanding of fire safety systems and IT infrastructure.

The Team
The dedicated members of the data center engineering team serve a critical role by maintaining power and temperature control to the computer equipment that supports the enterprise. We work in conjunction with enterprise infrastructure and hardware maintenance teams to maintain the operational integrity of the data center.
Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
