The Role

This role will provide technical leadership within a product delivery team responsible for the design, development, delivery, and support of business-critical applications and services. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills to drive engineering excellence, influence technical direction, and enable the successful delivery of customer and business outcomes.


Working closely with Engineering Delivery Managers, Product Managers, System Analysts, Quality Engineers, Architects, and fellow engineers, this individual will help shape solutions that are scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable while ensuring teams can deliver value predictably and efficiently.
We are looking for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, mentoring others, influencing technical decisions, and creating an environment where engineers can do their best work.

The Team

You will be part of the Plan Sponsor WorkStation (PSW) technology organisation within Stock Plan Services (SPS).


As the Principal Engineer for a product delivery team, you will provide day-to-day technical leadership while partnering with engineering and product leadership to balance delivery commitments, technical investment, operational stability, and long-term maintainability.


You will work closely with Engineering Manager Product Management, System Analysis, Quality Engineering, Architecture, and Platform Engineering to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with business priorities and enterprise standards.

The Expertise We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technology-related discipline.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience building, delivering, and supporting enterprise applications.
  • Proven experience leading the delivery of complex software solutions in large-scale environments.
  • Experience acting as a technical lead for teams delivering business-critical applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions and drive alignment across engineers, product, architecture, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience balancing feature delivery, technical debt reduction, platform improvements, and operational priorities.
  • Experience using GitHub Copilot or similar AI-assisted engineering tools is desirable.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong understanding of modern application architecture patterns and cloud-native design principles.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in Angular, TypeScript, RxJS, Signals, and enterprise level front-end architecture.
  • Experience leading delivery in large Nx/monorepo environments.
  • Strong experience with REST-based service integration and API-driven design.
  • Experience with distributed systems, CI/CD, AWS, observability, testing, and secure software development.
  • Experience establishing quality practices across unit, integration, visual, and end-to-end testing.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers across the delivery team.
  • Drive engineering decisions aligned with architectural direction.
  • Partner with Architects to evaluate solution options and contribute to long-term strategy.
  • Identify and proactively manage technical, delivery, and operational risks.
  • Support engineering and product leadership in technical trade-off decisions.
  • Establish engineering standards, development practices, and quality expectations.
  • Reduce duplication across applications and delivery teams through common patterns.
  • Drive technical alignment across delivery teams, applications, and partner organisations.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify architecture, reduce technical debt, and modernise legacy implementations.
  • Provide technical decision leadership while ensuring alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Lead production issue resolution, root cause analysis, and prevention activities.
  • Ensure solutions meet security, performance, accessibility, resilience, supportability, and observability standards.

Delivery Partnership

  • Partner with the Engineering Delivery Manager to assess technical feasibility and delivery risks.
  • Provide early technical feasibility assessment during roadmap planning and initiative shaping.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Product Analysts, and Systems Analysts on scope and requirements.
  • Provide clear visibility of technical risks, assumptions, trade-offs, and business impacts.
  • Build credibility with business, product, and technology stakeholders by clearly articulating recommendations and options.

Mentoring & Engineering Excellence

  • Coach and mentor engineers at all levels.
  • Support the development of future technical leaders.
  • Champion continuous improvement across engineering practices, tooling, automation, and delivery processes.
  • Champion the responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering capabilities to improve quality and productivity.
