Job Description:

The Role

The Counterparty Research Analyst will 1) deliver credit research and opinions on Fidelity bank and broker/dealer counterparties. This includes the approval and denial of prospective counterparties and ongoing reviews and monitoring of existing counterparties in accordance with internal, proprietary standards, and 2) provide research and advice to Fidelity business functions on their counterparty banking relationships. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze potential and existing counterparties. Analysts assign a credit rating based on an assessment of the current financial strengths and weaknesses as well as a thoughtful discussion of the expected future credit quality of each counterparty.
  • Conduct discussions and meetings with the senior management team of the counterparties, e.g., Chief Financial Officers, Treasurers, and Chief Executive Officers.
  • Understand the country, industry, market conditions, economic, and political issues relevant to the counterparty's credit profile. Discuss the counterparty with any Fidelity investment analyst who covers the country or company, as well as utilise any external resources which may exist, such as sell-side investment research and rating agency reports.
  • Prepare a formal credit note containing a credit opinion and recommendation on each counterparty which provide accountability for recommendations.
  • Understand the nature of Fidelity's business with each counterparty, including trading and investment opportunities.
  • Recommend practical business and credit decisions which balance credit concerns with trading needs and objectives.
  • Clear and effective communications and relationships with the Director of Counterparty Research, other Analysts, trading desk personnel, as well as other business functions.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA and/or CFA preferred
  • Bank or broker/dealer credit analysis experience required
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills with experience in quantitative methodologies and financial modeling
  • Ability to communicate impactfully orally and in writing, with internal stakeholders and Fidelity management, as well as ability to build relationships which will directly support your work
  • Experience with data visualization software and/or programming preferred
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and self-directed environment to complete timely individual research as well as collaborative thematic pieces

Counterparty Research & Analytics (CRA) is an independent risk management resource within Fidelity dedicated to protecting our clients from risk of loss arising from trading and treasury relationships with financial institutions. CRA works extensively with Fidelity’s trading desks that trade on behalf of FMRCo, Fidelity International, Fidelity Canada, FIAM, Geode and SelectCo.
