The Team

The Role
Reporting to the Global Head of Fixed Income Research, the Managing Director of Research (MDR) will lead a team of research analysts and associates in the Merrimack, NH office. In this role, you will evaluate and oversee the sector(s) investment process, including the assurance of quality and timeliness of research notes/reports and research communication. You will also be responsible for the assignment of industries and companies to members of the team, as well as providing coordination and oversight of research-managed funds.

As a member of the Fixed Income management team, you will exhibit, foster, and encourage open communication and coordination with all members of the team. Specifically, with other MDRs and CIOs, you will manage analyst rotations, effective information dissemination, and development of compensation structures and metrics. You will be expected to embrace our critical initiatives, think in an unexpected way and collaborate to implement our business plans. Your partnership with portfolio management and trading teams in Merrimack, as well as in all global locations, will be critical and engaging in active conversations to identify areas where your team can add more value will be required. You will act as an advocate for the research team’s ideas with the PMs and will serve as a meaningful, collaborative link between your team and the other relevant investment teams.

In addition, you will participate in succession planning activities, as well as coaching, compensation and regular, on-going performance management of the associates on your team. This includes creation of quarterly check-ins and associated direct, regular conversations with associates helping them see their strengths and areas for development. Identifying and articulating clear objectives, goals and expectations is critical, and you will be responsible for the ongoing measurement of progress against these key priorities. You will provide career development and training opportunities, and coaching and mentoring to associates on the team. You will oversee hiring/recruiting objectives in coordination with talent acquisition.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the research team, including interaction with investment professionals both in fixed income and more broadly across the asset management organization – both locally and across the world

  • Lead the strategic, effective and efficient deployment of resources to support and drive the overall growth objectives of the business

  • Partner closely with other investment leaders across asset management to facilitate career vitality and mobility and build efficiencies where applicable

  • Build and encourage an environment that prioritizes diversity and inclusion

The Expertise and Skills You Bring
The role requires a well-rounded professional who possesses a deep understanding of investment research, portfolio management, product development and the investment process. Familiarity with asset management technology and tools is preferred. Additionally, the position requires:
