Market & Collateral Risk Management – Director

The Team

Join Fidelity’s Collateral & Market Risk Management team to help protect the firm from potential losses from the margin lending and trading activities of both institutional and retail customers of Fidelity Investments.  The team is responsible for determining lending appetite and providing continuous analysis of the risks inherent in each client’s portfolio and investment strategy.  Portfolios are analyzed and evaluated in real-time through extensive simulation and stress analysis designed to estimate market related risks.  The team develops and maintains risk models, methodologies and processes to ensure the risk framework remains robust and effective as market structures, strategies and products evolve. 

Areas of Responsibility

  • Subject matter expert in stress testing and other risk and margin frameworks
  • Establish strategy, goals and priorities for your team and help them execute
  • Develop close partnerships with senior business leaders, sales and relationship managers at Fidelity
  • Maintain deep knowledge of businesses and customers related to the Fidelity brokerage platforms
  • Act as a leader and coach helping to challenge and develop the associates around you
  • Lead a team of associates to perform ongoing assessments of risk model effectiveness, make enhancements where necessary, and help develop models and methodologies to support new business, markets, and products.
  • Actively monitor markets and macro events; consider the impact of these events on Fidelity businesses and customers and assessing potential limitations in risk models.
  • Your team is the primary resource which provides support to internal business partners and clients on matters and questions related to stress testing and margin methodology
  • Lead your team in targeted deep dive analysis of the larger and more complex client portfolios. 
  • Help lead regular presentations and discussions of top risks with business leadership
  • Become an expert in Central Counterparty (CCP) models and risks; support development of replication and attribution tools; provide updates on trends and material changes to senior leadership
  • Partner with the Risk Data Science & Analytics teams to innovate and develop solutions to enhance risk process and deliver business insights through analytics and trend analysis.
  • Partner with the Risk Product Development team to make enhancements to risk systems & tools.
  • Develop and support frameworks and processes for data quality assurance.
  • Work closely with vendors that provide critical data and modeling services in support of the firm’s stress testing and margining processes.
  • Partner with Compliance to draft responses to regulatory inquiry and/or meet with regulators directly as part of standard regulatory exams
  • Lead and/or support special projects and initiatives

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Finance or STEM degree preferrable); other credentials, e.g., FRM, CFA or advanced degrees are a plus
  • 10+ years of relevant risk management experience, preferably in collateralized lending
  • Significant experience applying statistics and quantitative methods in finance
  • Strong knowledge of financial markets and products and fluency with the risks of listed derivative and fixed income instruments
  • Expert in risk management principles and experience analyzing portfolio strategies and risks using stress testing and scenario analysis
  • Technical experience working with product development, developers, risk systems and data
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; works well in a team environment; communicates complex topics clearly and concisely
  • Proven leader and manager with high EQ
  • Strong knowledge of investment products, margin lending, trading, clearing and the related regulations
  • Well-organized and a self-starter able to work independently and manage expectations, and drive initiatives from beginning to end
  • Experienced with Excel, Bloomberg, PowerPoint, database queries and analytical tools and methodologies including SQL
  • Drive innovation with out-of-the box thinking, challenging the status quo, and working with data science to deploy new artificial intelligence techniques
  • Series 7 & 24 licenses (Fidelity will sponsor if you do not already have these)

The base salary range for this position is $103,000-$218,000 per year.  

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
