VICE PRESIDENT, NEW VENTURE DEVELOPMENT, FIDELITY LABS
Reporting to the Managing Director, Commercialization and Business Operations, the Vice President, New Venture Development will be responsible for exploring and making recommendations on new business opportunities to develop within Fidelity Labs. This role will identify, research and pitch ideas for new, category-defining businesses from Fidelity’s unique assets.

This opportunity is brought to you by Fidelity Labs, Fidelity Investments’ in-house new business incubator. Founded in 2005, Fidelity Labs has played a critical role in driving growth and innovation for the firm for nearly two decades. The Fidelity Labs organization has a active portfolio of operating businesses and projects in early stages of development. Labs is constantly prototyping concepts for Fidelity’s next new ventures. Fidelity Labs is a dynamic workplace that combines the best parts of startup life—building from scratch, adapting quickly, and moon-shot ambition—with the scale and stability of an industry leader.
The Vice President, New Venture Development will identify new commercial business opportunities, build business cases, and help secure the necessary funding. This role will partner with Fidelity Consulting, Fidelity Corporate Development and 3rd party resources to explore opportunity spaces and research markets. You will also constantly assess Fidelity’s current capabilities and data assets and determine when they can be applied to commercial opportunities. A successful candidate will partner and influence internal and external technology and business leaders and is motivated by outcome and impact. The role will also help shape the Labs approach and analysis of markets, business models, and products.

THE EXPERTISE AND SKILLS YOU BRING

MBA/Master’s degree in relevant field and 10+ years of relevant work experience

Adept at leading multiple projects / initiatives at once

Experienced ability to work collaboratively with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical fields

Intellectually curious individuals with a high degree of comfort with ambiguity

Thrives in a fast-paced environment, high standards for performance with a continuous improvement attitude

Ability to synthesize analysis and research into strategic insights and practical recommendations, including strategic analysis, financial analysis, operational analysis, and primary/secondary research

Capable of influencing middle to senior management through both personal interactions as well as the creation and delivery of presentations

Ability to assess risk and operationalize findings – turning research into actions

You have experience measuring outcomes in terms of unit economics/SaaS metrics

You have operational experience with the early development and/or assessment of business models and you are used to developing financial services products, platforms, and services.

Ability to lead the prototyping of new concepts and engage with prospective users and customers to acquire relevant qualitative and quantitative feedback

Background / experience in management / strategic consulting and/or new venture development

Relevant experience in startup, financial services or financial technology is required

Defining business strategy, crafting an argument for why Fidelity should invest in the opportunity space, and securing funding and sponsorship for the proposed venture.

Designing team structure and resource needs and working with functional leaders to source, onboard, and develop talent.

Establishing critical underlying assumptions that must be true for new venture success

Leading external business development (e.g. – acquisition, aqui-hire, etc.) efforts as needed, securing partnerships and relationships required for success.

Playing a significant role in continuous improvement of our operating model and to overall incubator strategy

The base salary range for this position is $124,000-$262,000 per year.
Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
