The Group

Fidelity is a global leader in Target Date solutions with over $600 billion in current AUM in the Fidelity Freedom Funds, 529 College Savings Plans and other related strategies. Our award-winning target date investment team is based in Boston and leverages the contributions of dozens of individuals, including four dedicated portfolio managers.

The target date team resides within the broader Fidelity Asset Management Solutions (FAMS) group, a leading provider of multi-asset class solutions for retail and institutional clients. The range of investment solutions includes target date funds, target allocations funds, income and real return strategies, world allocation funds, managed-volatility strategies and other custom institutional solutions. FAMS is also developing and managing a range of cross-asset liquid alternative strategies, including, risk parity, global macro-opportunities, arbitrage products, and option-based hedging strategies.

The Value You Deliver

We are seeking a Portfolio Manager to join in managing all investment decisions for U.S. target date funds within a team-oriented framework.

Strategic asset allocation

  • Responsible for making long-term investment decisions, including determining the glide path and strategic allocations for the portfolios.

  • Provides investment insight and direction to a team of multi-asset researchers focused on strategic asset allocation.

  • Contributes to the ideology and philosophy related to the strategic asset allocation of the funds and FAMS more broadly.

  • Understands the long-term drivers of risk, return, and diversification in global asset classes.

  • Utilizes both fundamental and quantitative frameworks and decision processes.

Active asset allocation

  • Responsible for active allocation decisions relative to the benchmark, emphasizing mispriced assets over shorter time horizons.

  • Responsible for idea generation and implementation of alpha-generating investment decisions across the target date suite.

  • Comfort with risk measurement systems and implementation of active views within a risk budget.

  • Contributes to the active allocation investment process. Works closely and collaborates with the research organization to establish the research agenda supporting active asset allocation decisions.

  • Applies a risk discipline consistent with managing institutional multi-asset portfolios.

Manager selection and portfolio construction

  • Responsible for constructing portfolios primarily using a fund-of-funds approach, including selection of strategies and managers, supplemented by exposure to ETFs and futures.

  • Collaborates with the manager research team to establish the research agenda supporting manager and mandate decisions.

  • Establishes and maintains relationship with CIOs across the equity/bond organization communicating on current/future mandate needs.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

10+ years of investment experience paired with industry relevant academic and/or professional credentials. A master’s degree and/or completion of or progress towards a CFA are highly preferred. Additionally, you possess:

  • Clearly defined investment process and demonstrated experience managing portfolios across and/or within global asset classes (i.e., stocks, bonds, currencies, commodities, alternatives).

  • Experience making strategic investment decisions in the context of lifecycle investing or other diversified portfolios.

  • Experience with security selection and derivatives implementation of active views.

  • Experience with multi-asset class risk frameworks and infrastructure, utilizing returns-based and holdings-based information.

  • Experience with multivariate statistics, actuarial mathematics, and data science.

  • Experience representing investment products with clients, consultants, media, and other institutional audiences.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Track record of working in high functioning teams.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
