Just a year ago, Minyi was at a crossroads. After dedicating over 20 years to a career in the healthcare industry, managing a technical team responsible for application development, she was ready for new possibilities. Professionally, she was in search of a new challenge, something that would give her opportunity to utilize her skills on a global scale and expand her experience beyond the industry she dedicated so much time to. Personally, she wanted to make a geographical change to provide better educational opportunities for her 11-year-old son. Similar to the cloud, Minyi was not constrained to a border, with anticipation for what’s next.

Six months ago, Minyi journeyed from Virginia to New Hampshire after accepting a new job with Fidelity as a Leader of Pipeline Platforms in Cloud Computing. In this role, she manages a technical team tasked with standardizing and improving current platform capabilities across the enterprise to make the systems scalable for everyone to adopt.

How has the transition been? Excellent.

When asked what she enjoys most about working at Fidelity, Minyi enthusiastically commented on how supportive everyone has been. Whether it be her team or business partners, no one has ever hesitated to help. Plus, she’s found the resources available to upskill employees in areas like platforms, applications and even leadership, to be incredible.

However, with change comes challenges

For her personally, the maturity of Fidelity’s Agile practice is at a level Minyi isn’t accustomed to and has taken some getting used to. It’s the best obstacle to face, having the business be so advanced, and exactly the challenge she needed. “I am very interested in what I am currently doing and learning so much” she says. Minyi explains that Fidelity uses “CRAWL, WALK, RUN and FLY” to measure an Agile team’s maturity. Her team is currently at the RUN level with a goal to FLY.  This challenge leads me right back to the appreciation I have for all the support and resources at my fingertips helping me to succeed.

Minyi believes learning in the workplace is key to success and is looking forward to acquiring new skills, filling knowledge gaps, and growing so that she can be that support for the next technologist. Are you ready to FLY with Minyi? First step, apply to one of our many tech opportunities.
