“My name is Caroline, and I am a rising senior at Clemson University, pursuing a degree in Marketing with a minor in Brand Communications.”

For the past three summers, I’ve had the incredible opportunity of interning at Fidelity Investments. Looking back on my experience, I am reminded of the tremendous growth I have achieved as a FIDTERN!

My Fidelity journey began in 2021 when I interned with Fidelity Institutional (FI) Marketing

At the time, internships were completely remote, but I was determined to make the most of my experience. I quickly realized that Fidelity is an organization that values inclusivity and support. I was warmly welcomed, and everyone displayed genuine happiness to answer my questions and support my success. That summer, I had the privilege to connect with over 60 associates across diverse business groups and hierarchical levels. I improved my skills in internal communications, social media marketing, and analytical insights. I even achieved my SEO certification! As the summer ended, I knew I wanted to return and further enrich my experience at Fidelity.

The following year, in the summer of 2022, I joined the FI Compliance team. Although Compliance was an area I didn’t have a lot of familiarity with, the team made me feel immediately at ease, creating an environment conducive to growth. The hybrid internship allowed me to fully immerse myself in the team-oriented culture – a welcomed shift from the previous year. Observing my peers’ passion for their roles and witnessing their day-to-day contributions was both inspiring and enlightening. Embracing assigned projects, I was fortunate to collaborate on impactful endeavors where I was able to gain a deeper insight into written supervisory procedures. I delved into working with multiple data sets, enhancing my technical skills, and learning the importance of clear communication. My team served as mentors, guiding me beyond my comfort zone and instilling pride in the significance of my work.

Caroline Fidelity Intern and Associate

In the summer of 2023, I returned to the FI Compliance team and was able to witness the results of the work I had contributed the previous year. The realization that my efforts had a lasting impact on our system was incredibly rewarding. Armed with the training from the previous summer, I seamlessly transitioned into my role. Applying my new knowledge, I navigated my tasks with confidence and embarked on further learning within the space. I have developed proficiency in Excel and learned how to manipulate extensive data sets. I successfully completed numerous projects and goals this summer. Collaborating with peers on substantial projects, I embraced greater responsibility.

Fidelity produces an amazing intern program that provides interns with the resources needed to succeed within the company

Through webinars, connect weeks, lunch and learns, and Friday meetups I have been able to connect with my peers and build on my financial literacy. The Fidelity Young Professional Network (FYPN) employee resource group mentorship has connected me with a mentor whom I meet with regularly for advice and guidance. The program also provided opportunities to attend career success programs that help with networking, resume building, and manager conversations. If I could give an incoming FIDTERN advice, I would tell them to network and take full advantage of the many connections that are available to learn from.

My journey at Fidelity has been marked by continuous growth, valuable experiences, and impactful contributions. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been afforded and look forward to the next phase of my journey within this exceptional company. I’m proud to share that my summer internship has extended into the end of the year, and I will be transitioning into a part-time role once the school year begins. I am eagerly anticipating this opportunity which will allow me to see my projects through to completion and continue my career at Fidelity.
