The Role

Fidelity's Corporate Services Technology organization is adding a Director, Engineering to our Westlake regional campus, within the DFW Metroplex. The Director is a senior engineering and technical leader accountable for the direction, delivery, and operational excellence of legal technology platforms. In this role, you'll directly manage software engineers and partner closely with engineering teams to design, build, integrate, and operate secure, scalable solutions. The role partners with Fidelity's Legal leadership, architects, and vendors, and is grounded in software engineering excellence, modern architecture, and reliable execution supporting discovery, litigation support, legal operations, and shared services.

The ideal candidate is not an order taker or project manager. We're looking for an engineering leader who can shape strategy, ask the right questions, influence architects and business partners, challenge the current ecosystem when appropriate, and help our Legal org modernize its technology landscape. Legal domain expertise is a plus, but strong engineering leadership, influence, and strategic thinking are key.

  • Directly manage a team of 6 local engineers and systems analysts; also provides technology leadership and strategic direction for an additional team of 10 international engineers

  • Deliver reliable, high-quality Legal technology platforms built on modern engineering practices and architectures

  • Improve platform stability, scalability, and delivery predictability through strong engineering discipline and hands-on leadership

  • Reduce operational and regulatory risk by ensuring systems are secure, well-governed, and production-ready

  • Elevate engineering capabilities through technical mentorship, coaching, and accountability for outcomes

  • Enable Legal Strategy and Shared Services and Corporate Services to achieve strategic objectives with technology that is resilient, scalable, and fit for purpose

  • Prioritize in a large enterprise environment with competing business, technology, security, and compliance demands

  • Balance strategic thinking with delivery and operational excellence


The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Proven software engineering leadership experience and experience working with enterprise platforms and driving modernization efforts

  • A strong understanding of and experience with modern architecture, cloud, APIs, integrations, and engineering best practices

  • Experience directly managing engineers responsible for full lifecycle delivery, including design, development, testing, deployment, and production support

  • Experience leading distributed teams, improving team maturity, and enabling teams to think strategically and not simply execute requests

  • Ability to work effectively with architects, challenge assumptions, and influence technical direction

  • Experience helping organizations adopt new technologies and modern ways of working

  • A forward-thinking leader who asks "why" and thinks beyond immediate requests and comfortable challenging the status quo and shaping future-state technology strategy

  • Must have a strong executive presence to develop relationships and the ability to work across diverse stakeholder groups and personalities

  • Clear and confident communication skills to explain complex technical topics to Legal partners and senior leaders

  • A trusted advisor who can influence decisions without direct authority, make sound judgment calls and drive alignment across a complex ecosystem

  • Comfort operating across the full software development lifecycle, from early requirements through post-release support and incident management

  • Experience managing vendor and platform partnerships, aligning roadmaps, integrations using APIs, event-driven, and secure integration patterns, and operational expectations to Legal priorities

  • Strong understanding of secure engineering practices, data governance, records retention, and compliance controls required for Legal and regulatory systems

  • Legal technology experience is a plus, including experience with eDiscovery, Legal Hold, Matter Management, eBilling, Legal Ops platforms, and experience with legal technology vendors

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
