The Role
Are you passionate about building scalable automation solutions that ensure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of enterprise data? Do you enjoy solving complex data validation challenges through code and creating frameworks that enable teams to test faster and smarter?
We are seeking a Principal Quality Assurance Engineer to lead the design and implementation of a modern test automation strategy focused on data quality, ETL validation, and large-scale data testing. This role is heavily focused on Python-based automation and is ideal for someone who enjoys building reusable solutions that improve testing efficiency, scalability, and coverage across complex data platforms.
This is not a traditional UI automation role. Approximately 90% of the work will be focused on validating data movement, data transformations, ETL processes, file-based integrations, database validation, and data quality controls. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Python, automated testing, data analysis, and framework development.
As a Principal QA Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader, developing automation frameworks from the ground up, mentoring other QA engineers, and driving best practices across the organization. You will partner closely engineering, product, and business stakeholders, drive an automation-first culture, and deliver innovative and scalable quality engineering solutions.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
Required Qualifications
- 8 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Test Automation, Software Development, or Quality Engineering.
- Expert-level Python programming skills with a proven track record of building automated testing solutions and reusable libraries.
- Extensive hands-on experience with PyTest and modern Python testing methodologies.
- Strong experience using Pandas and other Python data-processing libraries for data validation, reconciliation, transformation, and analysis.
- Extensive experience testing:
- ETL/ELT data pipelines
- Data migrations
- Data movement processes
- File-based integrations
- Data quality rules and controls
- Database-driven applications
- Strong expertise with database validation and data reconciliation techniques.
- Advanced SQL skills with experience validating large data sets across Snowflake, SQL Server, and Oracle platforms.
- Experience with Playwright for UI automation testing.
- Experience developing automated tests for complex data workflows and business-critical data processing systems.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Experience designing and developing automation frameworks from scratch.
- Experience creating scalable, reusable, and maintainable test automation architectures.
- Experience testing cloud-based applications and data platforms running in AWS and/or Azure.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and Artifactory.
The Team
Fidelity Workplace Consulting is a growing business that works primarily with Fidelity’s strategic clients to advise and create solutions on client workplace benefit needs. The Data Consulting Team diverse skills are leveraged to design and build customized solutions to address unique scenarios that spans across multiple product lines (i.e., Defined Benefit, Defined Contribution, Stock Plan Services, Health and Welfare, and HR/Payroll).
Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
