As the Director, Data Platform, you blend deep expertise in mainframe development, enterprise data platforms, application modernization, and large-scale technology delivery with a passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing engineering talent. You are committed to modernizing critical recordkeeping platforms while maintaining the resiliency, stability, and performance required to support a global enterprise. In an agile structure, you will collaborate with Product Area Leaders, Architects, Engineering Leaders, and Data Platform teams to define strategic modernization roadmaps, establish engineering standards, and drive execution across mainframe, distributed, and cloud-based solutions. You are dedicated to helping teams evolve legacy platforms, adopt modern engineering practices, and deliver business outcomes through innovation, operational excellence, and technical leadership.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring
Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field
12 plus years of software engineering experience, including significant experience supporting and developing large-scale mainframe applications
Deep expertise with COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and enterprise mainframe development practices
Strong experience designing, developing, and supporting mission-critical recordkeeping, transaction processing, and data management platforms
Hands-on experience with SQL in DB2 and Oracle environments
Experience driving application modernization initiatives, including API enablement, legacy transformation, cloud integration, and platform simplification
Experience with Java, RESTful services, and distributed application architectures preferred
Experience with ETL technologies, Informatica, data integration, and large-volume data processing
Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure, and cloud-native engineering practices is a bonus
Experience with event streaming technologies such as Kafka and low-latency data platforms such as Redis is a plus
Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies, DevSecOps practices, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles
Proven ability to influence engineering and technology strategy across multiple organizations and stakeholder groups
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and organizational leadership capabilities
Critical thinking skills and experience balancing modernization objectives with operational stability and risk management
Financial Services experience preferred

Provide technical and organizational leadership for globally distributed engineering teams responsible for critical business applications
Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, and Engineering leaders to deliver business solutions that align with strategic objectives and technology roadmaps

Lead modernization initiatives involving cloud integration, API enablement, application transformation, and data platform evolution
Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including Agile, DevSecOps, automation, observability, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
Remove organizational and technical impediments that impact team effectiveness, delivery execution, and platform performance
Champion operational excellence through proactive risk management, system resiliency, performance optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives

Communicate strategy, priorities, progress, risks, and outcomes effectively to senior leadership and executive stakeholders
Guide investment decisions and modernization priorities by balancing business value, technical debt reduction, platform stability, and long-term strategic outcomes
Build and develop a high-performing engineering organization through mentorship, coaching, talent development, and succession planning
Foster innovation and adoption of emerging technologies and modernization patterns that support the organization's long-term data platform and technology vision
Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
