Job Description:
Senior Network Engineer
DCNS - Network Triage & Troubleshooting
The Team
Fidelity’s Network Triage and Troubleshooting (NTT) team provides advanced technical troubleshooting and incident response for complex technology issues impacting Fidelity’s internal business operations and external customers.
NTT engineers work across network, security, cloud, application, and infrastructure domains to rapidly isolate issues, mitigate customer impact, identify root cause, and improve the resiliency of Fidelity’s technology environment.
The team operates at the intersection of deep technical troubleshooting and major incident response, partnering across engineering, operations, application, cloud, security, and service-provider teams to restore service and drive complex issues through root cause and corrective action.

- Sunday - Wednesday, 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM EST
The Expertise You Have
- 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting and troubleshooting complex enterprise network and infrastructure environments.
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing and switching technologies, including BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VRFs, NAT, and high-availability network designs.
- Experience troubleshooting network security technologies including firewalls, proxies, VPNs, segmentation, and DMZ architectures.
- Experience with load balancing, DNS/GSLB, application delivery, and network traffic management technologies.
- Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure networking, connectivity, and security constructs.
- Experience using packet analysis, monitoring, and network observability platforms to diagnose complex performance and connectivity issues.
- Experience with network automation, scripting, APIs, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Experience working within ITSM disciplines including Incident, Problem, and Change Management.
- Cisco CCNP, Check Point CCSE, AWS/Azure networking, security, or equivalent industry certifications are desirable.
The Skills You Bring
- Advanced troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to isolate complex problems across network, security, cloud, application, and infrastructure domains.
- Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, packet flow, routing protocols, DNS, NAT, firewalls, proxies, VPNs, and load-balancing technologies.
- Strong understanding of application communication patterns, including HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, APIs, and client/server connectivity.
- Experience performing packet-level analysis using tools such as Wireshark and enterprise packet/network performance platforms.
- Experience leveraging network observability and monitoring solutions such as ThousandEyes, Splunk, Riverbed AppResponse, or comparable technologies.
- Strong understanding of AWS and/or Azure networking, including VPC/VNet architecture, routing, security controls, load balancing, and hybrid connectivity.
- Knowledge of software-defined networking and modern application architectures including containers, Kubernetes, PaaS, APIs, and cloud-native services.
- Experience with Python, Ansible, APIs, network automation, and infrastructure-as-code technologies.
- Ability to correlate telemetry from multiple platforms and develop evidence-based hypotheses to efficiently isolate problems and identify root cause.
- Ability to lead technical troubleshooting during high-severity incidents while maintaining clear communication with engineering teams, business partners, and leadership.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical findings into concise, understandable business-impact statements.
- Demonstrated curiosity and a continuous-learning mindset across networking, security, cloud, automation, observability, and emerging technologies.
The Value You Deliver
- Serve as a senior technical troubleshooter for complex, high-severity production incidents affecting Fidelity associates, applications, and external customers.
- Rapidly assess incidents, establish troubleshooting strategies, isolate fault domains, and drive technical teams toward mitigation and root cause.
- Analyze network telemetry, packet captures, logs, routing information, application flows, and infrastructure data to develop evidence-based conclusions.
- Troubleshoot across traditional data center, cloud, hybrid, security, and application environments rather than stopping at individual technology boundaries.
- Partner closely with Network Engineering, Security, Cloud, Application, Infrastructure, Operations, and external service providers during complex incidents.
- Provide technical leadership during major incidents by helping teams establish facts, challenge assumptions, prioritize troubleshooting efforts, and maintain focus on service restoration.
- Identify recurring failure patterns and translate incident learnings into monitoring improvements, automation, documentation, and longer-term corrective actions.
- Improve troubleshooting efficiency through automation, observability, telemetry correlation, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Clearly communicate technical findings, business impact, mitigation strategies, and root cause to both engineering teams and senior leadership.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to stronger troubleshooting methodologies, technical capabilities, and operational practices across the broader organization.
- Continuously evaluate emerging technologies, including AI/ML and advanced analytics, that can improve troubleshooting, observability, automation, and operational decision-making.
Technical Leadership
As a Senior Network Engineer within NTT, you will be expected to independently lead complex troubleshooting efforts, organize and influence technical teams during high-severity incidents, challenge assumptions using data, and drive investigations from initial triage through mitigation, root cause, and corrective action.
You will help raise the technical capabilities of the organization through mentoring, knowledge sharing, documentation, automation, and continuous improvement of troubleshooting practices.
What Success Looks Like
Successful NTT engineers are naturally curious and comfortable working in situations where the source of a problem is not immediately known.
You may begin an investigation without knowing whether the issue resides within the network, firewall, proxy, DNS, cloud environment, load balancer, application, server, service provider, or another technology domain. You use telemetry, packet analysis, logs, monitoring data, and disciplined troubleshooting to follow the evidence, isolate the fault domain, and help teams restore service quickly.
You are comfortable going beyond traditional networking boundaries, learning unfamiliar technologies when necessary, and bringing the right engineering teams together to solve complex problems.
Most importantly, you balance technical depth, urgency, collaboration, and clear communication to deliver the best possible experience for Fidelity’s customers and associates.
Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
