Position Description:

Leads the development of Performance Measurement and Analysis (PMA) front-end and API applications for complex projects, components, and subsystems, aligning teams with strategic objectives and driving architecture design and application-level execution. Defines technical approaches, coordinates engineering activities, and promotes engineering excellence and continuous improvement. Plans and sequences technical work across multiple projects, including performing risk assessments and applying mitigation strategies. Performs complex technical and functional analysis, drives technical strategy, and supports divisional initiatives. Guides teams in designing and developing Java RESTful APIs, front-end applications, and cloud-based solutions using modern frameworks (Angular and Spring Boot). Monitors the application performance using Amazon Web Services (AWS) Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), EKS, RDS, and Datadog. Resolves technology issues, designs innovative solutions, and partners with stakeholders to influence backlog priorities, optimize resource utilization, and apply best practices aligned to organizational standards. Shares technical insights and monitors industry trends to support domain-wide advancement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy.
  • Participates in business and technology fusion sessions with product teams on new requirements for monitoring rules.
  • Identifies potential gaps in the current operation models and design component enhancements.
  • Identifies functional gaps and technical challenges, and works with compliance technology teams, architecture, and product owners to propose solutions.
  • Serves as a technical lead on core engine module enhancements for initiatives.
  • Sets best engineering practices in UI, middleware, database code development and Agile process.
  • Identifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.
  • Consults on development and delivery of major technology initiatives for the business unit.
  • Consults on deployment of major project deliverables.
  • Consults on the documentation of major technology applications.
  • Initiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.
  • Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies.
  • Regularly provides guidance, training, and coaching to other team members for performance and career development.
  • Identifies and plans for future resource needs.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Applied Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Data Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing and developing Rest APIs and web applications in a wealth management financial planning platform using Java/J2EE.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Applied Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Data Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing and developing Rest APIs and web applications in a wealth management financial planning platform using Java/J2EE.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise designing scalable and highly available technology solutions using Confluence and draw.io tools for financial planning and profiling; performing daily activities -- user story refinement, micro services development, and product environment support -- using Datadog, Splunk, Spring Integration, Drop Wizard within a complex ecosystem of Financial Planning and Profiling APIs; and developing backend services for financial services products --customer account management.
  • Demonstrated Expertise designing, developing and supporting UI Web applications for brokerage platforms with multi-device responsive user interfaces (UIs), using Single Page Architecture (SPA) Angular (modules, routing, and observables), JavaScript, Bootstrap CSS, and HTML5; and integrating with REST APIs for real-time data updates, ensuring high performance and security standards to deliver intuitive, user-centric solutions tailored to the needs of broker-dealer and advisor clients.
  • Demonstrated Expertise developing and consuming Java RESTful and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) Web services in an Agile environment using Java design patterns, Spring Model-View-Controller (MVC), Spring Core, Spring Security, and Spring Boot frameworks; and crafting complex SQL queries, and establishing efficient and reliable software delivery processes by implementing Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices using Terraform to ensure software delivery and maintain application stability and performance through proactive monitoring with Jenkins, GitHub, Grafana, and Splunk.
  • Demonstrated Expertise designing developing and supporting Cloud-based solutions to deliver performance, security, availability, and monitoring, using AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), ECS, EKS, DynamoDB, Relational Database Service (RDS), Elastic Cache Redis, and Datadog; and performing API management using Apigee and JWT validations.
