The headquarters of Fidelity Investments is located in Boston nestled adjacent to the Seaport District, a former “no-man’s-land” that has since evolved into one of the coolest neighborhoods in the city. The area is the modern face of an old city. The mood is creative and cheerful, the crowd is a bustling mix of professionals, and the office is right in the center overlooking the Boston Harbor. The area’s culture is reflected in the personalities of the people you find working inside the building. The office sits amid a mass of interconnecting commercial and residential buildings, most with their own unique character, history, attractions, and appeal. If you’re visiting Boston, you might be tempted to stay!
When traveling to the office, you have lots of options! From all local starting points, you’ll find there’s a scenic walk filled with the faces of the city—young and more seasoned professionals making their way to their jobs, locals walking with their dogs or babies, early morning joggers—and a view of the water. If you prefer to get to work via two-wheels, Fidelity Real Estate Company (FREC) has ensured the office offers indoor, on-site “parking” for traditional and electric bikes, scooters, and hoverboards. Lockers are also available for storing helmets and bike accessories, along with showers and changing rooms, within the building. Conveniently, the office sits outside South Station, one of Boston’s most prominent transportation hubs, making it easy to take the commuter rail or subway in to the office. There are also several traditional parking lots available nearby that offer discounts to Fidelity associates.
Once you arrive at work, you are immediately greeted by the friendly front desk staff and a curation of stunning art
There is a collection of art unique to the Boston location as there is for every Fidelity office. On the first floor, there is a beautiful common area looking out on the city streets, where you can pull out your laptop and work, connect with a colleague, or just people watch while enjoying a cup of coffee. Speaking of coffee, like at many of our offices, The Beanery is one option for full-service coffee and a quick bite to eat. There are also complimentary self-service coffee, espresso, cappuccino machines located throughout the building.
There is a unique piece of artwork in the lobby. Eumorph is a commission that August Ventimiglia created specifically for our headquarters. Ventimiglia’s forms are made entirely of chalk snap-lines that have been created and recreated until solid forms emerge from the wall. A piece of string is covered with chalk, then anchored at both ends on the wall or floor and pulled taut. When the string is snapped in the middle, a chalk line is laid down on the surface to which it is anchored. Typically meant to be impermanent, Ventimiglia’s lines are preserved and protected with a thin acrylic varnish applied after the lines are rendered. Eumorph takes the form of two splayed globes looking over the lobby, where the lines that create each flattened sphere radiate from the point of Boston, MA.
Like many of our campuses, Boston offers various on-campus resources
Is your laptop acting up? Did you forget your charger? On the first floor, there’s a Techworks Guru Bar where experts can fix your laptop on the spot or offer you a replacement charger for the day. You’ll also find “The Hub,” or Hospitality Hub, on this floor where their motto is “Whatever you need, wherever you are, we are here to help.” There are hospitality carts spread throughout the office with last minute needs such as mints, screen cleaners, combs, tissue packs, pens and more. If you need a flu shot, health screen, or any other type of routine care, there is an on-site Health & Wellness Center staffed with health care professionals waiting to assist you. Complimentary snacks, the above-mentioned coffee machines, sparkling water on tap, and flavored water are also available throughout the building. Reusable coffee mugs and glasses are offered in place of paper or plastic to avoid generating unnecessary landfill waste.
The Boston location has the most stunning views. With 14 floors and expansive views to the east, west, north, and south, and windows that stretch floor to ceiling, seeing Boston’s rich charm that changes with every season is an experience unlike those at any other Fidelity location. The seventh floor is designed to feel like a very large living room. Associates float in and out throughout the workday to connect with colleagues or just grab a cozy seat for a change of scenery. Here you’ll find a perfect view of boats bobbing in the water and attractions such as the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum and the giant Hood Milk Bottle. Off one of the upper levels, there is an outdoor patio that allows you to take in the views and is the perfect spot for lunch on a warm day. Boston associates use this space for casual meetings or to take advantage of the occasionally offered rooftop yoga classes. In the summer, besides the occasional seagull’s nest, you’ll find a small herb garden the on-site chef uses for inspiration in meal planning.
Speaking of meal planning, we wouldn’t want to forget the best amenity on the Boston Campus—the Fidelity Café! There is no need to venture far to find a good meal. There is 24/7 Café access, which means you can grab items such as freshly made sandwiches, salads, snacks, and beverages anytime! Or in the mornings, you can begin your day with our famous French toast, delectable double chocolate chip muffins, made-to-order egg sandwiches, or other offerings, such as bagels, fresh fruit, parfaits, and more, as well as complimentary coffee from local roasters. By lunchtime, your options are endless. The grill may serve classics like a burger, or maybe you would prefer a sub from the cold sandwich station. A make-your-own salad bar provides a variety of lettuces and endless toppings. Most days of the week, the local vendor station offers something new, such as Indian or Mexican fare, giving you additional options when deciding what to eat. Live music, free doughnuts, and other surprises are known to pop-up. Many food options have a FIT choice—a healthier version priced more affordably. Meals can be ordered ahead on an app or picked out in real time to enjoy indoors or take outside to eat on the patio.
What else makes this campus unique?
The community is in the middle of one of the most historic cities and is the headquarters of this remarkable company. If you venture up to the FCAT (Fidelity Center for Applied Technology) lobby on the third floor, you’ll find the company’s history on the wall in an interactive display. If you’re lucky, you might see people participating in a virtual reality meeting (headsets and all) as they test out some of the latest technology. You can also peruse the patent wall and check out the plaques for some of the more than 266 U.S. Patents that have been issued to Fidelity. (Fun Fact: We have a patent club to support inventors within the company.)
On the second floor, you’ll find another common area where associates can enjoy a quiet lunch or catch up with a colleague from another team while looking out over the Boston streets. There are several interactive games to play, including cornhole, Jenga, Connect Four, and there’s a lending library as well for the avid reader. If you need to take a break and get outside, we have made it easy by compiling a walking trails map with 8 different walks from the office that range from 1.5-2.5 miles long!
