For these reasons and more, financial advisors love working at Fidelity. In this article, you’ll learn more about the role and whether it could be a good fit for your career goals and lifestyle.

What a Fidelity financial advisor job entails

As a Fidelity financial advisor, also known as a financial consultant, you’ll work closely with clients to build investment and retirement plans that support their long-term goals. You’ll meet with clients in person to build a real relationship and create a great client experience. It’s all about making a meaningful difference in their lives and doing what’s best for them.

Unlike most financial advisor jobs, you won’t have to worry about hitting specific benchmarks or goals. Your success is built around serving your clients, so you’ll work with your manager to identify benchmarks specific to your personal client base.

“We’re different from other firms because we don’t necessarily have measurable goals. It’s just making sure each client, and each associate, is feeling heard and cared for,” says Cara, a Fidelity recruiter.

We’ll set you up with a large support system of team leaders, trainers, coaches, and mentors to provide training and support as you work with clients. You’ll also have access to subject matter experts, such as planning consultants, relationship managers, financial representatives, and investment consultants who provide insights on investments and help you navigate client needs. This means you’re never on an island as a Fidelity financial consultant.

“The team approach in the advising roles can’t be understated. You have great support staff behind you who make the role that much easier,” says Joe, a financial consultant at Fidelity.

Also, when you come to Fidelity, you don’t have to worry about bringing your own customer base or sourcing clients. Fidelity provides you with a prospective list directly from our existing customer base, and we’ll help you build a significant book of business within your first year.

“There are so many ways we can get new clients to sit down with us,” says Jessica, a branch leader at Fidelity. “Part of the Advisor Academy is the plan to build your book within the first 12 months and beyond. As you graduate the Academy, you’re fully emerged, you’re in the branch, and you’re trying to add households to your book as quickly as you can.”

What it takes to have a financial advisor career at Fidelity

Fidelity financial consultant jobs require you to have a Series 7 license . You must also have a Series 63 license or be able to get a Series 63 license within 90 days of starting at Fidelity. If you don’t have a Series 7 license, Fidelity has entry-level roles available for you to train and earn your license.

Financial advisors at Fidelity enjoy a flexible work environment. You’ll work out of one of our Fidelity Investor Centers (also known as branches), so you’ll need to live close enough to make the commute. You’ll come in to meet with clients in person, building your schedule around client visits. Though, many financial advisors enjoy coming into the office more often.

Our schedule makes it easy to balance life outside of work—whether you need to step out for an appointment or leave early for a personal obligation, as long as your clients and work are covered, we’re happy to accommodate you.

“The work-life balance is fantastic. It’s baked into the role,” says Joe.
