Tailor your resume to the Fidelity job posting
“Ask if your current skills and experience speak to the job advertised, and get that information into your resume,” said John. Highlight your transferrable skills from past jobs and other industries. “A unique perspective is always welcomed at Fidelity,” said Blake.
Feature your certifications. “Certifications show you have the work ethic to become better today than you were yesterday,” said Blake. Ongoing learning drives technology adoption and innovation, which is why it’s such a big focus at Fidelity.
“Show your progression,” said John. “If you went from software engineer to senior software engineer, explain that and what you’re looking for next. If you worked on different products or applications or took on more lead responsibilities, add that in.”
“Sell yourself a bit by focusing on your good character and skill set,” said Blake. “Use your executive summary to call out that you’re passionate about joining Fidelity.”
When you tailor your application to a specific Fidelity role, you’re focusing on delivering a higher quality submission rather than hoping you’ll get through on quantity.
Be patient
“Sometimes it’s a timing thing,” said John. Sign up for job alerts to hear about Fidelity’s newest openings.
Blake said, “Temper your expectations while still being proactive. Be sure you’re not throwing out lines and dragging them back in too soon.” At Fidelity, for example, the full hiring process can take 60–90 days.
How many jobs should you apply to at Fidelity?
Be thoughtful and limit the number of applications you submit at one time. “Applying to every single Fidelity role can erode or undermine a candidate’s perceived value,” said Blake. “It can signal a lack of focus regarding whether the applicant truly understands or fits the Fidelity role or if the role fits what they want in their career.”
If you apply to be a software engineer, cloud engineer, crypto risk analyst, and architect at the same time, recruiters may be concerned that you don’t have all the necessary skills for such different roles. Multiple simultaneous applications could raise questions for recruiters.
If things are in motion and you are interviewing with Fidelity hiring managers, don’t apply for additional jobs. It’s hard to be patient, but it’s worth the effort in the end.
When you speak with the recruiter, make it known that you really want to work at Fidelity. “Use the first call to have the recruiter educate you about the position and Fidelity. Ask if they see that you could be a good fit for another part of the organization,” said John. “Recruiters are a tool to help you navigate the bigger Fidelity enterprise. They can help you understand the difference between a software engineer and a senior software engineer.”
“Understand you aren’t pigeonholing yourself to one role. See where else the recruiter thinks you may be a fit,” said John. If you’re open to relocating or other roles, let them know in that initial discussion. Fidelity has started streamlining technology job positions to eliminate candidate confusion. One job could represent dozens of jobs across that region.
It’s important that applicants at Fidelity understand the role, understand what they want from their career, and articulate their desire to join the organization. If you can do that, our recruiters can help you navigate organizational needs and connect you with additional roles, so focus on the one or two roles that make sense when applying.
